How can I add a main objective?

Choose Your Main Goal in the RunMotion Coach App

In the RunMotion Coach app, start by selecting a main objective that best matches your current motivation and priorities. This can be either:

  • race objective (such as preparing for a specific event), or
  • well-being objective (such as weight loss, improving fitness, or getting back into running).

If you are preparing for several races with very different formats or distances — for example, a 10 km road race and an ultra-trail within a short time frame — choose the event that matters most to you as your main objective. Your training plan will then be optimized and structured primarily around that key goal.

To create your main objective:

  1. Open your Dashboard or Timeline in the app.
  2. Tap the message inviting you to create a new objective.
  3. Define your objective by selecting the type of challenge, your target, and the planned date.

Supported Race Objectives

You can prepare for multiple types of competitions in RunMotion Coach, either with the simple aim of finishing the event or with a specific time goal.

Road Running

Prepare for races of virtually any distance, including:

  • 5 km
  • 10 km
  • 20 km
  • Half marathon
  • Marathon
  • 100 km
  • Any other custom road-running distance

Trail Running

The app supports all trail-running formats, including:

  • Short trail races
  • Medium and long-distance trails
  • Ultra-trails
  • Events with any elevation gain or terrain profile

Triathlon

Training plans are available for:

  • Sprint / S distance
  • Olympic / M distance
  • Long-distance / L format

Other Competition Formats

You can also prepare for:

  • Multi-stage races
  • Time-based events (e.g. 1-hour, 12-hour, or 24-hour races)
  • Endless-loop formats such as Backyard races

How Far Ahead Can You Plan?

You can create race objectives up to 18 months in advance.

However, for optimal motivation and progression, we recommend setting a major goal every 3 to 6 months, especially if you participate in several races throughout the year. This helps maintain consistency, structure your training cycles effectively, and avoid long periods without a motivating milestone.

Well-Being and Progression Goals

RunMotion Coach also allows you to prepare for well-being and fitness progression objectives, such as:

  • Weight loss
  • Improving endurance
  • Returning to regular training
  • Building general fitness
  • Increasing running consistency

These programs generally last between 4 and 16 weeks (approximately 1 to 4 months), depending on your preferences, availability, and current fitness level.

Fitness Tests and Performance Assessments

The app also supports preparation for various fitness and performance tests, which can be useful for competitions, coaching, or evaluating your running level.

Available tests include:

  • VO2max test
  • Half-Cooper test (6-minute test)
  • Cooper test (12-minute test)

To prepare for a test:

  1. Create or edit a main objective.
  2. Tap “Prepare a Test” during the objective setup.
  3. Select the type of test and choose the desired test date.

Your training plan will then adapt specifically to help you perform at your best on the selected assessment day.
