Updating the RunMotion App
The RunMotion Coach app is regularly updated to provide new features or fix minor bugs.
Updates are downloaded automatically if you have enabled Automatic Updates on your iPhone or Android.
To enable automatic updates on iPhone: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202180
To enable automatic updates on Google Play: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/113412?hl=en
On the App Store (iPhone): https://apps.apple.com/app/runmotion-coach-running/id1370327708
On the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.runmotion.android
If you don’t have the latest version, you’ll see an option to Download or Update.
If everything is up-to-date, you’ll just see Open.
You can also check the "What’s New" section or the description to see the latest version number.
After updating, to confirm that you have the latest version, open the RunMotion Coach app, go to My Profile (icon at the bottom right of the menu), and scroll down to RunMotion App, where you’ll see the current version. In this example, it’s version 7.4.3.
If the version on your app matches the version on the store, you’re good to go! 😊
Sometimes, when we announce a new release (e.g., version 6.1), it might take a bit of time to roll out on the stores—sometimes up to 24 hours. In such cases, wait a few hours and try again.
Also, if we fix a bug on the App Store (e.g., version 6.1.1) that doesn’t affect Google Play, the latest version might be 6.1.1 on the App Store and 6.1.0 on Google Play. Rest assured, the functionality is the same on both platforms. 😉
In rare cases, if your iOS or Android version is outdated, you might not be able to download the latest app version. Consider updating your iOS or Android system to access the latest features for the RunMotion Coach app and your other apps.
App versions follow the A.B.C format. For example, on November 28, 2023, the latest version is 6.1.0. Version 6.1.0 succeeds 6.0.0, which was released in late September 2023.
The first digit (A) represents major updates, the second (B) represents minor updates, and the third (C) represents bug fixes.
For example:
Version 6.0.0 is newer than 5.4.1.
Version 5.4.1 is newer than 5.3.2.
When developing apps, we need to ensure code quality, and the methods used evolve over time. We generally support up to three versions of operating systems simultaneously. Once less than 1% of users have a specific OS version, we stop supporting it for newer app updates.
For example:
On iOS, RunMotion Coach version 7, released in July 2024, no longer supports iOS 15. iPhone 7 models, released in 2016, are not supported for newer versions because Apple doesn’t allow iPhone 7 to download updates beyond iOS 15. However, you can still download version 6 of RunMotion Coach, which includes great features like the PPG module!
On Android, RunMotion Coach version 7 supports all Android versions since Android 7 (released in 2016) and is compatible with most phones released since 2014.
